Safeguarding is not simply a set of government rules which must be followed but a practical outworking of our biblically-based values and our gospel witness; it should be an intrinsic part of our pastoral care for those who interact with our churches. The content of your safeguarding policy needs to reflect the work, ministry and structure of your church.
If your church works with children or adults at risk of abuse (sometimes called 'regulated activity') then we commend to you Christian Safeguarding Services (thecss.co.uk), who provide support, guidance and model policies.
If your church does not currently work with children or adults at risk we have worked with Christian Safeguarding Services to produce the template policy document above.
Sometimes model policies for safeguarding can feel large and overwhelming, so do ask for help and support in writing a policy that fits your situation.
NB. The policy template below is in Open Document format (.odt), which can be opened by all popular word processing software (e.g. Microsoft Word).
