Data Protection

Looking after people’s information is really important. Every church needs a policy outlining how they will do that.

Every church collects, stores and uses data on a regular basis – to communicate, to keep membership lists and databases, to organise rotas, to keep records of financial giving, and many other things.

We want to care for and honour our church family and those we come into contact with well by looking after their information. A policy outlining how we will do that is important part of meeting our legal obligations in this area.

It is also important that churches only store information as long as necessary, so a document outlining how long we will store data can be really helpful.

Templates for both of these documents can be downloaded below.

Further information can be found in a really helpful free guide to meeting your obligations under the data protection legislation on the Edward Connor Solicitors website: Data Protection Law and Your Church
