"I Am the Good Shepherd"

When Jesus spoke of shepherds and sheep in John 10: 1-21, his hearers would have been reminded of how God relates to his people, how he acted in salvation, and of his promised shepherd to lead his people.
Jesus is the true shepherd who alone can lead the sheep. He is the gate that leads to life and salvation. He is the good shepherd who shows his goodness in how he lays down his life for his sheep.
Now, as we seek to shepherd God's sheep in the church, we must see and appreciate Jesus as our model. He calls them, he knows them, he cares for them, he values them, he gives himself up for them.
