Theological Publication 'Primer' Available Online

All 12 issues of Primer, FIEC’s theological publication which ran between 2015 and 2021, have been made available for free as PDFs.

Primer was born out of a desire to help church leaders to stay theologically sharp. Sometimes, pastors train for ministry at a theological college but then find it hard to maintain further study after moving into ministry. Primer was designed to help bridge that gap and bring more theology into the local church – it was often used in discussion by eldership teams and ministry fraternal groups.

Edited by David Shaw while he served as Lecturer in New Testament and Greek at Oak Hill Theological College as well as FIEC’s Theological Adviser, each issue of Primer takes one topic of theology and expands on it six or seven long-form articles.

Each issue looks at what’s been said about the topic historically, and how the church is engaging with it today. There are often reviews of helpful books to encourage further reading as well as chapters focused on how the topic shapes pastoral ministry. There are even interviews now again with ministry leaders.

The publication was designed by FIEC Designer Jonathan Bennett, and he included lots of space around the text to encourage notes in the margins.

After six years of publication, Primer is no longer in print. However, each issue can now be downloaded for free using the links below.

Although the publication is no longer available in print, we hope this work can find its way to a wider audience now it's available online.
