Become Better Theologians in the Local Church

The FIEC Theology Team exists to help FIEC churches, their leaders, and their members to become better theologians and to work out the practical implications of theology for their lives.

To do this, we are taking the work of the team on the road.

As the chair of the Theology Team, I am available to come and visit your region and serve your churches with some theological input through a seminar or something similar.

Theology teaching for your church

We would love to help facilitate a meeting or a day of meetings to suit your needs. It could be geared for church leaders specifically or wider for church members too, following whatever format you felt appropriate.

Maybe a seminar or a talk leading to discussion – we want them to be as interactive as possible. Maybe you could organise a variety of meetings: perhaps a daytime session for church leaders and an evening session for everyone.

You would need one church to host the sessions and then would invite all the FIEC churches in the area to join you.

We can cover themes and topics that would be most helpful to your group of churches. For example: the doctrine of God; the Trinity; the person of Christ; the doctrine of heaven; a theology of unbelieving children.

If there are other theological topics you would like to address, we would be happy to consider your needs.

There is no cost to FIEC churches for this service: you would only have to organise the meeting(s) and accommodation if an overnight stay is required.

It could take place during the week or at a weekend. It could also be combined with preaching on a Sunday. We are happy to consider all options – the more meetings the better!

For example, since becoming FIEC Director for the West Midlands I have run a number of seminars across the region:

• An evening on the doctrine of the person of Christ for churches in Coventry and Warwick.
• A series of Sunday afternoon training sessions for churches in south Birmingham.
• A study morning on the doctrine of heaven for the churches in and around Worcester.

It has been a great encouragement to me to see the desire of normal church members to engage in theological reflection and I would love to see that more across the country.
