Take a Deeper Dive into Independent Church Ministry
In September 2024, FIEC will be recommencing the 14-session online ‘Certificate in Independent Church Ministry’ in partnership with Edinburgh Theological Seminary (ETS).
Have you ever wondered about the history behind Independent churches, how they’re run, or just why there are so many varieties of them (Baptist, Brethren, Congregational, Mission Halls, etc.)?
Or do you perhaps serve in an Independent church and would like to refresh your knowledge and strengthen some of your leadership skills?
If so, the 'Certificate in Independent Church Ministry' is designed to address those questions, while providing a broad overview of the structures, dynamics, challenges, and opportunities of being a self-governing congregation.
Whether you are leading in such a church (FIEC or otherwise), attend one, or just would like to understand Independency better, this course is designed for you.
“The FIEC module at ETS offers a unique opportunity to think through the theology and history of Independent ecclesiology. I highly recommend the course to anyone who wishes to get a better grasp of the principles and practice of ministry within an Independent church.”
Richard Gamble, Pastor of Grace Church Bothwell
Each session will be led by experienced FIEC leaders, who will unpack the history and theology of Independent churches, along with governance, leadership and membership issues. Other sessions will cover practical topics such as growth and mission structures, women’s ministry, services and sacraments (see the full list of topics below).
This 14-session online course will take place on Wednesday afternoons between September and February. Attendees who complete an optional assignment will be eligible to receive the ETS 'Certificate in Independent Church Ministry'.
So, if you’d like to take a deeper dive into this growing force for the gospel, please sign-up and join us this autumn.
