FIEC Church Leaders' 2021 Book Pack
A special offer for a pack of five books for church leaders to enjoy and be equipped by.
One of the disappointments of missing out on 2020’s non-existent FIEC Leaders’ Conference was the absence of having a decent bookstall to browse. Inevitably, when this happens, we all end up reading the same small number of titles. Nothing wrong with that in itself; Gentle and Lowly, for example, is a class act.
But we impoverish ourselves - and our churches - if we’re not reading more widely, and especially if we’re not only reading for ourselves, but for them. Not many of our people are going to read Gentle and Lowly, I wouldn’t think, and none of our children will. So what can we recommend to them?
That’s why we’ve put together a book pack for FIEC church leaders with our friends at 10ofThose. It’s the kind of deal you might have expected to get from a conference were you there in person.
Here are five titles for you and your church. It’s a good deal too – normally £60.95 but yours for £25 if you use the code FIECLBP2020.
Lead, Paul Tripp
Importantly, this pack will get you a great book on leadership for yourself and other leaders in the church.
Lead by Paul Tripp is not just another book on being a leader. Rather it is a balanced book on being a leader, filling in some of the gaps left by others.
I particularly valued the place for building one another up in faith in leadership teams and thinking of longevity as a prime quality for leaders. Class.
It would have been one of our main conference recommendations.
The Generosity Project
There's a copy of The Generosity Project in this pack. This book accompanies the course you might know or can be read as a standalone book.
It is written recognising that the culture of generosity in our churches is weak. I think we can all say amen to that. Some really helpful stuff here including some contributions from our own John Stevens.
You’ll read this and want to be thinking about integrating some of the teaching into your small groups or Sunday ministry.
Sketches of Faith
Also in the pack is Sketches of Faith, a nicely presented reissue of a book outlining 33 Christian characters, with each sketch written by a well-known Christian.
My observation is that most Christian leaders have a poor grasp of Christian history, and there is much to reflect and learn from. There’s a broad scope (Paul the Apostle and CT Studd the cricketer in the same volume!).
For All Who Grieve, Colin Smith
Colin Smith’s For All Who Grieve is in the book pack too.
There is virtually nothing written that is high quality and pastorally helpful on this subject. Colin’s book is a good start, though it is more of a pastoral book to hand to people.
It will help you think more clearly about how you help people struggling.
The Little Him Book, Peter Mead
Finally, this pack will get you a copy of a little gem: The Little Him Book by Peter Mead.
Peter is a pastor in Chippenham and a great writer. It’s a short, simple, but wonderfully Christ-centred devotional book giving nine aspects of Jesus (plus a summary) and calling us to focus on him.
This is the one you’ll want to read, then buy for people in your congregation.
