New Life Church Middlesbrough is a growing church in the East side of Middlesbrough. We are a local church for local people, and yet we have been blessed to seen the nations join us! We are a Gospel-centred church with a real heart to reach out with the good news of Jesus into our local community. We are currently working in a number of council estates and we would love to have an even greater impact in our local community. To reach this goal, we are looking to expand our staff team. In particular, we are looking to train someone for future ministry. This would be an ideal opportunity for a man considering full-time pastoral ministry, but looking to train and get some experience. The role will be varied and will provide involvement in many different aspects of ministry. Required Skills

1. Training

  • Participate in the Medhurst Ministry Training Course 
  • Meet with the pastor regularly for ongoing development 
  • Whatever reading and other development is considered beneficial 
  • Opportunities for further external development and training, if discussed. 

2. Preaching and teaching

  • Learning from the pastor and from other resources what preaching is, and how to do it. 
  • Attending weekly sermon feedforward sessions 
  • Leading 1-to-1 and/or small-group bible studies with non-Christians and new believers. 
  • Opportunities to teach at midweek bible study, and other opportunities in church life. 
  • Potentially opportunities to preach in Sunday services, depending on progress and gifting. 

3. Pastoral work

  • Doing pastoral visitation 
  • Discipling newer believers 
  • Praying for the members of the church and our community 

4. Outreach 

  • Being involved in our outreach to the local area. 
  • Looking for opportunities to build connections with people and to share the Gospel with those who don't yet know Jesus.

5. New projects 

  • Depending on the person and their gifting, opportunities to begin new ministries or to develop existing work in the life of our church. 

6. Administration

  • Some administrative tasks to help keep members aware of what's going on in the life of the church. 

7. Other tasks as necessary

Requirements 

  • You must meet the character qualifications of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, and have an aspiration to eldership. 
  • A love for the Lord Jesus and His Gospel 
  • A commitment to the local church and serving God's people. 
  • A desire to see God's kingdom grow, and a heart to work with other Christians to make that happen. 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • An ability to teach others 
  • A willingness to learn and try new things. 
  • A hard worker. 
  • Experience being part of, and serving in, a local church 
  • Previous theological education, not essential but desired.

It is an occupational requirement (in accordance with the Equality Act 2010) that the applicant is a genuine Christian with a personal, lived-out faith in Jesus Christ. They must be able to agree with the Church's statement of faith, and be willing to live as a member of New Life Church in addition to their professional requirements.
