Conflicts of Interest

Trustees have a legal duty to act in the best interests of the church and must manage any personal interests which might affect their decision making.

Conflicts of interest are those things, most commonly financial conflicts or conflicts of loyalty, which might influence a trustee's decision making and make it difficult for them to act solely in the best interests of their church. The presence of such conflicts of interests is inevitable and so it is vital that churches have processes in place to identify and manage those conflicts.
