Important Requirements

Applications can only be considered from those who are UK citizens or who otherwise have a right to work in the UK.

You will need to be able to declare wholehearted acceptance of the FIEC doctrinal basis and agreement with the FIEC ethos statements.

Do you have experience of serving in the church and a desire to go into full time church ministry? Are you growing in your gifting as a bible teacher? Here at CityGates, we have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pastor-in-Training for a 4-year Fixed Term. You will undertake formal theological training (Crosslands etc) whilst working for the church.

CityGates Church is a growing, vibrant city centre church of around 350 people in Norwich. We have a vision to see Norwich, Norfolk and the UK reached for Christ. Our vision includes training up and sending out the next generation of gospel workers. The church has a strong commitment to engaging, Christ-Centred, bible exposition. The congregation that gathers over our three Sundays services are socially and ethnically diverse, spread over a range of ages. As a church we have a clear evangelistic strategy, with a strong presence in the NR3 area (where our church is situated). By God's grace, we are seeing unbelievers come to faith and numerous non-christians invited and exploring the faith.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Lead and Associate pastors, developing his gifting and skill as a minister of the gospel. As part of our friendly team, you will gain hands-on ministry experience, work on character formation and develop theological understanding as you prepare for future church leadership. Our strong team ethos means that we regularly support one another in various aspects of ministry life, especially during outreach events as a church.

Required Skills

The candidate will be a self-starter, motivated in setting ministry goals and working within a team to achieve them. The role will involve all aspects of pastoral ministry: one-to-one discipleship, visitation, pastoral care, ministry planning and preparation and especially preaching and teaching.

This is a training role, therefore regular mentoring, feed-forward and feedback will be provided. The role is full time, consisting of theological study for two days whilst working for the church the remaining time. This is a very exciting opportunity to work with an experienced team and within a church family committed to training. We are looking for a team player, who can thrive within a busy environment and who can manage competing deadlines.

Essential:

  • Godly character consistent with the requirements for an elder in 1 Timothy 3:1-6 and Titus 1:5-9
  • Gifted in bible teaching.
  • Some experience in leading a team (whether voluntary with a church or paid in the workplace)
  • Full agreement with the FIEC Doctrinal Basis and Statements on Women in Ministry, Gospel Unity and Marriage
  • A committed team player.
  • Some experience in providing pastoral care.
  • A right to work in the UK

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in a non-Christian environment.
  • Experience working with students.
