Operations Manager
Moorlands Church
Since 2005 when the current work at Moorlands began, our aim has been to grow Christ's church by proclaiming Christ's gospel, so that people in Lancaster and it's two universities may be captured by the gospel in ever increasing numbers, and equipped by God's word for a lifetime of mission. As a multi-cultural church in the centre of a university city a key part of our vision has always been to reach, train and send a new generation of gospel workers for God's harvest field. We have recently completed a major building project which we hope will expand our ministry in coming years. We are now seeking an Operations Manager to join our Senior Staff team who will be equipped to enable further gospel growth in the next stage of the church's life.
We are convinced that Jesus grows his church as his word is taught and the Spirit gives new life. The Operations Manager's primary goal will be to enable this word ministry to flourish both on Sunday mornings and throughout the week by releasing others for word ministry. Church growth also involves change. Therefore the Operations Manager must be able to facilitate organisational change, turning vision into reality, so the church can grow. In practice the Operations Manager will work mainly alongside the Senior Pastor, enabling him to focus on teaching, training and leading the church in its mission, while ensuring that all aspects of church life are well organised so that other pastoral staff can be released for word ministry and so that every member of the church can maximise his or her contribution to the mission of the church.
This is a senior role with responsibility for some key areas of organisation in addition to the oversight of a number of teams.
This would include:
• Overseeing the church's day to day operations in line with the church's vision for growth.
• Assisting the Senior Pastor in planning the church's program, managing the staff team, maintaining connections with outside networks, releasing him for the work of teaching, training, sending and planting.
• Overseeing the established Teams structure by enabling Team Leaders to co-ordinate ministry across the whole church. Overseeing the recruitment and training of volunteers.
• Overseeing existing policies and creating new ones in order to ensure the church's compliance with legal requirements (including health and safety, safeguarding, food hygiene, GDPR etc.)
• Overseeing the Teams responsible for the church premises with regards to usage, maintenance and planning.
• Implementing the church's media and communications strategies both internally and externally.
• Overseeing the church oLice functions and IT resources, including line management of support staff.
• Managing projects as required and as the needs of the church demand.
Required Skills
We are looking to appoint a mature Christian self-starter who will be able to lead the above organisational aspects of church life with a view to fulfilling the church's vision for growth.
Specifically:
• The Operations Manager and will share the church's vision for gospel growth in Lancaster and beyond through reaching, teaching, training and sending.
• The Operations Manager will have a servant hearted attitude, being happy to work in the background in order to free others up for word ministry and therefore to maximise the gospel reach of the whole church.
• The Operations Manager will interact with a wide range of people, so strong people-skills, including excellent communication abilities, are essential.
• The Operations Manager will be a team player, developing close and supportive working relationships with the Senior Pastor, other members of the staff and elders teams and the wider church family
• The Operations Manager will have a proven track record of turning vision into reality through organisational, leadership and project management skills, problem solving and mastery of the necessary tools to implement change.
In addition:
• There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the post-holder is a practising Christian.
• There must be a commitment to the beliefs and visions of the church, including complete agreement with the statement of faith.
• There is an expectation that the post-holder would join the church as a partner, being involved in the life of the church as their gifts and personality dictates.
