Assistant/Associate Pastor
East London Tabernacle Baptist Church
East London Tabernacle exists to see the gospel changing people for good. We believe this is accomplished through the faithful teaching of God's word by His Holy Spirit which is all about Jesus and all for His glory.
General Responsibilities:
- Provide godly leadership alongside the Senior Minister and other elders
- Seek to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ, especially among the men
- Pray for and provide pastoral support to the congregation
- Training and equipping the congregation for works of service
- Undertake administrative/practical support to facilitate all the above.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Form part of the senior leadership team (eldership) at ELT
- Assist with leading and preaching at weekly Sunday Services
- Assist with training and equipping small group leaders
- Attend weekly staff meetings and provide relevant feedback
- Undertake 1:2:1s: evangelism; discipleship; pastoral support; training as appropriate
- Encourage the congregation in the uptake of Conferences/Training opportunities
- Support Ministries serving and equipping men
- Nurture relationships with local non-Christians
- Attend an Annual Ministry Conference
- Meet with the SM and Elders for accountability and prayer
- Willing to work flexibly and at weekends
Required Skills
Essential Qualifications:
- A mature, committed Christian man who is growing in faith and godliness
- Agree the Bible is God's Word and final authority in doctrine and practice
- Repentant, prayerful, and forgiving
- A growing love for God and His people
- A gifted preacher who is able to explain the Bible clearly to believers and non-believers alike
- Appropriate training and ministry experience
- Humble, teachable, and able to receive correction
- A team player able to relate to people of different ages, ethnicity, and social backgrounds
- Able to sign our statement of faith in its clear and plain meaning and without reservation
