Grove Hill Evangelical Church (GHEC) started life as a mission in 1878 and was established as a local church in 1883. Previous pastors and assistant pastors include John Edmonds (Swindon), Andy Jack (Aberdeen), Andre Beck (Felixstowe) and Mark Hughes (Avoch). GHEC joined the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) in the 1920s. It is also part of a local Passion for Life group - as well as a wider evangelical group in the Wanstead and Woodford area - and is a member of the Evangelical Alliance.

The church currently has just over 40 members, with a Sunday morning attendance of between 70 and 90. We have three elders (including one employed pastor and one who gives two days a week voluntarily) and five deacons.

The church is located in a residential suburb of London, which has an increasingly diverse ethnicity.
