Churches are largely supported financially by the generous financial support of their members. It is vitally important that those resources are stewarded well for the gospel.

The Charity Commission expects that all churches will have policy that sets out clearly how the church manages its finances – however much or little that might be.

Alongside developing a policy, you may find it helpful to review the checklist provided by the Charity Commission for charity trustees to help them think through their responsibilities. It can be found on the Internal financial controls for charities page and is called Checklist: Internal financial control for charities.

NB. The policy template below is in Open Document format (.odt), which can be opened by all popular word processing software (e.g. Microsoft Word).
