Charlotte Chapel prayerfully wishes to appoint an additional Pastor to oversee discipleship within the membership, including specifically the pastoral care of men. This post will oversee all small group Bible study ministries.

Job Purpose

The postholder will serve as a member of the pastoral team, with the goal of seeing growth of all members in prayerful dependence upon God and obedience to all that Jesus Christ has taught.

The postholder will nurture and guide individuals in their faith, encourage and equip men to take spiritual leadership in their families and small group ministries in the church.

Key Result Areas

Provide oversight for all small group Bible study ministries, working with individual ministry leaders, so that all participants grow in spiritual maturity, love for God, and service for Him.

Work alongside an existing team of volunteers, to lead and develop the visitation programme for predominantly older vulnerable men so that they will be spiritually strengthened and grow in Christ.

Initiate and oversee discipleship programmes for all men so that they grow in spiritual maturity, are eager to serve, and so that husbands are equipped to take an active spiritual leadership role in their families.

Take responsibility for the fortnightly Growth Group programme in Charlotte Chapel so that members grow in spiritual maturity, love for God, and service for Him.

Lead occasional Sunday Services and occasionally participate in the Sunday preaching programme.

Tasks

  • Visit senior vulnerable men as necessary.
  • Visit younger vulnerable men as necessary.
  • Train and mentor an existing group of male volunteer visitors.
  • Work alongside leaders of all small group Bible study ministries to encourage and support their work. These are: Time Out, Young Adults at Charlotte Chapel (YACC), International Fellowship, and the Men's Fellowship.
  • Write bible studies for Growth Groups and encourage an existing small team as they contribute to the writing of bible studies.
  • Mentor Growth Group leaders and equip them with the resources and training necessary to foster spiritual growth in their groups.
  • Provide pastoral care and advice to Growth Group leaders, aiding them in their ministry to group members and ensure a supportive environment for spiritual development.
  • Identify and train new Growth Group leaders, thereby ensuring the growth of our church's discipleship efforts.
  • Design and implement discipleship programmes for the whole church alongside the women's ministry coordinator.
  • Design and implement a discipleship programme for men who may become future elders.
  • Meet men one to one to read and study the Bible together.
  • Be part of the eldership team that seeks to guide the life of the church in a godly manner.
  • Be part of a staff team and contribute to the life of the church.
  • Attend a daily prayer session and a weekly staff meeting.
  • Lead occasional Sunday services.
  • Preach occasionally at Sunday services as part of the church’s preaching programme.
  • Lead and speak at weddings and funerals, alongside other members of the pastoral team.

Required Skills

Required Skills and Qualities 

This man will have a vibrant personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to Christian discipleship.

Alignment with the mission, vision, and ministry philosophy of Charlotte Baptist Chapel.

A recognised level of theological training, preferably at a degree level.

Proven experience in discipleship ministry, pastoral care, or church leadership.

Demonstrable strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Demonstrable organisational and leadership abilities, with a passion for equipping others for ministry.

A collaborative spirit and a record of working effectively within a team environment, both as a leader, and a team member.

There is an occupational requirement for the post-holder to be a committed evangelical Christian who would become a member of the congregation in full agreement with our doctrinal statement and membership commitment.

In addition, because of the theological position of the church that the office of eldership is open only to males, this post is open only to male applicants.


Hours: 40

Anticipated working week 5 days

Annual leave: 25 days

Public Holidays: Local and Scottish Public Holidays

Probationary period: Six months
