Role Overview

Bethel Baptist Church is seeking to appoint a servant-hearted, godly Christian brother or sister as a Community Outreach Worker, to equip and lead us in our outreach work.

Church Profile

Bethel Baptist Church is a medium-sized growing FIEC church situated in Upper Hale, Farnham, Surrey. Around 120 attend our service on a Sunday morning with church activities taking place almost every day of the week. Our congregation is made up of a range of ages and various backgrounds with a good number of families. We also meet to worship twice a month on a Sunday afternoon at a Community Centre on the nearby Sandy Hill estate. Our website: www.bethelbaptist.org.uk.

Responsibilities

  • To lead us in reflecting on our current ministries and identifying how these could be more outward-facing in the light of our church and area;
  • To help us grow in confidence in telling our personal stories of meeting Christ;
  • To support/lead our outreach on the Sandy Hill estate;
  • To lead our work with teenagers inside and outside the church.

There is room for growth in other ministries which might present opportunities for candidates who have different or additional gifts. Formal theological training is highly desirable but not necessary.

Required Skills

  • A prayerful, godly Christian who is eager to serve Jesus’ kingdom and people.
  • A clear communicator who is able to explain the gospel in simple and attractive ways, recognising the importance of local context and current culture.
  • Someone who can engage others in conversations about faith creatively and flexibly and inspire us to do the same.
  • A leader who can inspire a team of volunteers, plan ahead, and thoughtfully and critically assess a ministry.
