The Trainee Minister for Church Revitalisation will learn about and then lead a church revitalisation to Kirkby. West Vale Chapel is a very small Brethren church with functional buildings in Kirkby, who are ready for the building to be home to a revitalised congregation. Kirkby is a town of 40,000 people just North of Liverpool. The Trainee Minister will live in Kirkby but be part of the Christ Church staff team, and undertake the necessary training and work to prepare for West Vale to be relaunched as an independent church in 2 years time.

Evangelism in Kirkby

- The trainee minister will spend time in Kirkby, getting to know the community, joining in with local organisations, bringing the chapel back into community use.

- He will form and implement a strategy to reach the community around the chapel in an attempt to see unbelievers connect with the church and meet Christ.

Pastoral Care

- There is a small remaining congregation at West Vale who need Bible teaching, visitation and care.

Developing a team

- Christ Church Liverpool are leading on this project but it has the support of a group of local churches with a history of working together. The post holder will network amongst these churches to find individuals and families happy to be part of the core team. The post holder will also connect with other churches to find Christians who may be travelling out of Kirkby to church, and with the permission of their church, discuss being part of the project with them. - The postholder will spend time in theological training of their choice, fees paid by Christ Church Liverpool. They will also spend one morning or afternoon per week learning ministry skills from the Lead Minister, from the minister of Trinity Church Everton and the minister of Northwood Chapel Kirkby.

Trustee Duties

- The postholder will be a trustee of the building and undertake relevant duties along with the other trustees.

Other duties commensurate with the role.

This post is part funded by Berean Baptist Church, Mansfield, Ohio. The trainee minister will be expected to build on this partnership which may involve occasional visits to the US.

This post involves regular weekend and evening working.

Required Skills

  • Able to agree to the Christ Church Liverpool Statement of Faith and work within the Christ Church Liverpool
  • Doctrinal Distinctives- Essential 
  • Experience of Christian ministry, whether in paid or volunteer capacity, including public teaching of the Bible- Essential 
  • Excellent communication and pastoral skills -Essential
  • Growing Christian character: passionate to follow Jesus, humble, prayerful and gracious- Essential 
  • Gifting and experience in community evangelism -Desirable
  • Experience in partnership working across churches of different denominations and styles- Desirable
  • Experience working for an evangelical Christian church or organisation- Desirable
