You will need to be able to declare wholehearted acceptance of the FIEC doctrinal basis and agreement with the FIEC ethos statements.

Alverstoke Evangelical Church (AEC) was founded in 1975 and is at a point of transition to a younger generation. Our Sunday meetings are held at Alverstoke Junior School. There are 70-90 people on a Sunday morning. The church has a relaxed and friendly community feel. Most people live within the vicinity of the school.

Amongst the membership, there is an appetite for fresh vision and an eagerness to connect better to the area in which we meet. The church wants to move on from recent challenges.

We are developing plans to increase our visibility and to reach out to the neighbourhood. We want to equip the whole church for witness among their contacts and as a church, especially to reach younger families. The church has an annual Holiday Bible Club. We are making plans to run a parenting course, hopefully creating momentum for us to restart our Toddler Group.

We are looking to appoint a Pastor who will help the Eldership provide clear direction to the church and who is able to shepherd the range of people within the congregation.

Required Skills

We are looking for someone:

To take a lead in the preaching and teaching ministry at AEC. To co-ordinate the preaching programme and to help others to improve their preaching.

To chair the Eldership so that an effective lead is provided to the church, bringing clarity to our approach to worship and different areas of service. Building the Eldership may involve mentoring individuals to develop them into future leaders.

To oversee pastoral care provided to the whole congregation. To undertake regular pastoral visiting to encourage spiritual growth and to develop initiatives for discipleship. Working alongside the Care Team to ensure people receive spiritual support through challenging times in their life.

To ensure that the Eldership effectively oversees the ministries of the church, reviewing how the community around might be best reached for Christ and how the church itself can grow together as a spiritual community.

To represent AEC publicly, growing effective gospel partnerships with ministries and churches in Gosport. To be involved with wider bodies such as FIEC and Solent Gospel Partnership on behalf of the church.

To give attention to your own personal development and to find support and encouragement through relationships with other gospel workers outside of the church.
