Jersey Baptist Church’s apprenticeship programme provides an opportunity for Christians wishing to serve God in a growing and diverse church in Jersey, Channel Islands. Through training, mentoring and hands-on ministry experience, this full-time, one or two-year programme aims to help apprentices deepen their understanding of the Bible, build up ministry skills and grow more Christlike in character.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Holidays: 25 days

Training: Ministry apprentices have one-to-one mentoring by the Pastor/Assistant Pastor. We also provide our apprentices in house training via Jersey Evangelical Training Scheme (JETS). All staff participate in Staff Bible study, meetings and planning and are encouraged to go on the FIEC annual leadership conference.

Key duties and responsibilities

Supporting Ministry Across the Life of Church

Jersey Baptist Church has a Sunday congregation of 200 people and Apprentices have an opportunity to serve across the breadth of our ministries including women’s and men’s discipleship, our music group, young adults ministry, Prospects (our ministry to individuals with learning disabilities), Community outreach and lots of opportunities for evangelism and teaching from the Bible. Apprentices also help with tech, AV and social media content for church events and are tasked with set up and break down of events, admin support, and problem solving as tasks arise.

Leading Ministry in children’s and youth and through new ministry initiatives

Apprentices serve as team leaders in our ministries to children and youth.

This includes; one-to-one Bible reading, leading volunteer teams, engaging in schools-based evangelism, giving Bible talks and leading Bible studies, managing events. Additionally, all apprentices are encouraged to initiate and lead a new ministry project which is focused on the apprentice’s specific gifts and interest.

The above information is not exhaustive, and the post-holder may be required to perform other ad hoc duties from time to time. As a faith-based organization, there is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder is a committed Christian.
