Mission

Mission is essential. We’re sure you agree. But where does FIEC fit in? Why should we do mission together?

FIEC churches should be passionate about seeing people become Christians. In fact, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ must be the very heartbeat of what we do.

There are many places in Great Britain where the gospel needs to be proclaimed – places with no or, relative to their population, little evangelical witness. And we’re encouraging FIEC churches to pray about starting a work in these areas.

We must be passionate about proclaiming and demonstrating the truth of the gospel so we need churches that plant churches in areas where no gospel community exists. That’s why we have put together a six part Church Planting Pack to help churches who are considering starting a new gospel work. We are also working with FIEC Training to recognise and equip evangelists.

It’s all too easy for a ‘maintenance’ mentality to pervade church life but we need to be ‘outward-looking’ rather than ‘inward-looking’. We need believers who are challenged about intentional gospel living and we need to make sure cross-cultural mission is nurtured and encouraged.

Mission Director Andy Paterson is helping churches to identify communities with no gospel witness, enthuse local churches to ‘do good’ in their local context, support evangelists in their varied ministries, network with mission agencies, commission and promote suitable evangelistic media as well as sharing the stories of FIEC churches who are engaged in bold and creative initiatives.

We want to ensure that being an FIEC church means that you are gospel-centred and mission-minded as we work together to see our nation won for Christ.

The role and work of an ‘evangelist’ has been overlooked by many Christians, or else it has been too broadly defined and understood to the exclusion of those so gifted. The reality is that evangelists are integral to local church life - and we need more of them.

"Evangelism or social action?" We believe that question is an unhelpful one. Christians should be work hard to be a blessing as they share both the gospel and their lives with their neighbours.
