The FIEC Certificate in Independent Church Ministry

Gain an understanding of Independent ecclesiology and learn how to serve Independent churches better on our Independent Ministry course - now open for registration.

The course, run in conjunction with Edinburgh Theological Seminary (ETS), is run biennially and is open to students, pastors, elders, and others who would like to understand and serve Independent churches better. Participants, who complete an optional assignment, can qualify for an ETS Certificate upon completion.

This 12-part online course starting in September 2021, which will be interactively streamed on Tuesday afternoons (2:30pm - 4pm), will cover a range of topics including how Independent churches are governed, motivating mission, women’s ministry, employing and caring for workers, and safeguarding issues (see the full programme below).

FIEC Directors and other experienced ministry leaders will lead each session, with time for questions and discussion.

Students who have previously undertaken the course have spoken positively of its practical value:

“The FIEC module at ETS offers a unique opportunity to think through the theology and history of Independent ecclesiology. I highly recommend the course to anyone who wishes to get a better grasp of the principles and practice of ministry within an Independent church”.

"I would definitely recommend doing the Independent Ministry course. I was impressed by the variety of topics covered and the quality of the lecturers. I particularly appreciated the way the lectures dealt with areas where people disagree with respect but also with persuasiveness and conviction”.
