Marlborough is a beautiful town in Wiltshire, just off the M4, 20 minutes’ drive from Swindon. The population of Marlborough is about half children. It’s the market town for a rural area of about 40,000 people. Emmanuel Church was planted in 2015 to reach out to this community with the great news of Jesus. On Sundays we are typically 50 adults and 30 children, with a focus on good Bible teaching. We thank God for a strong sense of partnership within the church and that visitors are warmly welcomed. We are an independent evangelical church, affiliated to the FIEC and a member of the South West Gospel Partnership.
Biblical youth and children’s ministry
Our aim is to make disciples by the faithful teaching of God’s word, modelled by godly leaders and peers, in an engaging, fun and safe environment. At present this includes:
During our Sunday services: Creche, preschool Scramblers, and primary age Sunday School
Outreach activities midweek: A toddlers’ group and a children’s club for school year 3 and above
Annual summer holiday Bible club (4 days)
We aim to start additional ministries for evangelism and discipleship among children and young people including:
A mid-week group for school year 6 and above
The Trainee will serve in a team running vibrant biblical youth and children’s ministry in a growing, outward looking church. They will be trained in Bible handling and be able to explore their options for future ministry.
The Trainee will serve in youth and children’s ministry, including but not limited to:
Helping to run our mid-week children’s club
Teaching in Sunday School
Practical ministry, e.g. setting up for events
Serving in our summer holiday Bible club
Initially, at least, these ministries will be headed up by others within the church. There will be further opportunities for ministry within the church or in the community, to be developed in discussion with the Trainee.
One day a week the Trainee will attend one of the excellent Ministry Training Courses run by a local Gospel Partnership in Oxford or in Bath. The church will cover the costs of this. This will also be a chance to befriend Trainees in other churches.
The Trainee will be discipled by meeting regularly with a church leader or other keen Christian, as appropriate, to read the Bible and pray together. Through regular mentoring we will enable the Trainee to reflect on what they are learning and to discern how best to serve God with their lives.
One of the great distinctives of our small but growing church plant is that the Trainee would be in regular contact with the Pastor and share life closely with other keen, mature Christians. Depending on the candidate, they may have opportunities for more up-front ministry than in a larger church.
We are looking for a Trainee who is committed to serving God and promoting the good news of the Lord Jesus. In particular we are looking for one who:
Has a clear personal faith in the Lord Jesus
Agrees with the FIEC Doctrinal Basis and accepts the FIEC Ethos Statements
Is committed to the Bible and prayer in their own lives and as the means by which we help others to know God and grow in him
Shows Christian maturity and gifts that would enable them to teach the Bible in small groups
Is eager to learn and to serve and willing to take on a variety of responsibilities and tasks
Cares about children and enjoys working within a team
The appointment would be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
