The Student Worker / Student Pastor will work with a team at City Church to reach and disciple students across the five main university campuses in Manchester (totalling more than 95,000 students). As part of the job, you’ll also get the opportunity for 3-4 years of fully-funded seminary study with Crosslands on the Student Worker track.

The Student Worker / Student Pastor’s main duties will be: 

  • Pioneering a renewed vision for how student ministry contributes to the vision of City Church
  • Envisioning, equipping and leading the student work team.
  • Coordinating a midweek training programme for students
  • Modelling, equipping and facilitating students in evangelism on campus.
  • Envisioning and training students to glorify God through engaging with their studies
  • Oversight of student 1-1s
  • Pastoral care of students
  • Organising student activities in addition to the midweek programme e.g. Student Residential, Summer Team to Church Mission Partner

Required Skills

Essential: 

  • Godly character consistent with 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. For the role of Student Pastor the candidate must be eligible for appointment as an Elder at City Church
  • Contagious love for Jesus
  • Self-starter who prizes innovation and leading with vision
  • A leader that others want to follow
  • Gifted in and passionate about evangelism
  • Full agreement with the FIEC Doctrinal Basis and Statements on Gospel Unity, Women in Ministry and Marriage
  • Experience in student work (over 5 years experience for Student Pastor role)
  • Recognised track record in excellent training of others
  • A pioneering spirit who thrives on new opportunities and is not afraid of change
  • A team player who is self-aware and able to harness others
  • Competency in building sustainable structures and programmes

Desirable: 

  • Some form of formal theological training
  • Full agreement with City Church Manchester’s Doctrinal Distinctives
  • High level skills in cultural exegesis
  • Administrative skills
  • Gifts in preaching
  • Experience of working with Christian Unions
  • Experience in speaking at regional and national student events
