Flitwick is a growing town in Central Bedfordshire, with many of its residents travelling to work in places like London and Milton Keynes. It is socially mixed, with relative affluence alongside serious material need and deprivation. Flitwick Baptist Church (FBC) has been in the town for over 100 years, and currently has more than 120 members. We are now looking for a new senior pastor fully committed to leading the church in its vision to bring the good news of Jesus to the many in the town who desperately need to hear it. The position arises because of Michael Teutsch’s recent move to Cardiff, and we would welcome interest from men with around five years or more experience of pastoral ministry.
We normally run three services each Sunday, small-group and central midweek meetings, and specific ministry to children, young people, men, women, and seniors. We also run a local outreach programme, support mission elsewhere in Britain and overseas, and participate in a project to meet local social needs.
We own our premises in the town centre, and most of the church activities are held there.
The senior pastor’s main responsibilities will be in three areas:
MINISTRY: to provide, in God’s strength, consistent and contemporary expository preaching and teaching of God’s word in the reformed evangelical tradition. To oversee the development of preaching plans and the establishment and continuous development of a preaching team. To provide pastoral care that makes people joyfully committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
MISSION: to oversee our commitment to Jesus’s commission to go and make disciples, locally, nationally and internationally. To take specific responsibility for personal and local evangelism so that evangelistic zeal is developed and maintained as an essential part of our church life.
MANAGEMENT: to provide biblical leadership in oversight of the staff and pastoral care teams, chairing of church business meetings and leaders’ meetings.
While our overriding prayer is that we are led to the man of God’s choice, we believe that there are some desirable characteristics to look for:
• Thoroughly equipped for gospel ministry and able to contend for the faith
• Passionate and cogent in preaching and teaching God’s word
• Passionate for soul-winning
• Experienced in leadership, and a team-player
• Gifted in relationship building and caring for people
• Visionary but self-disciplined; a strategic thinker
• Committed to increasing Christ-likeness
To register interest, please send a confidential letter of self-introduction, with details of two referees, to the Flitwick Baptist Church elders, c/o Andrew Nock, Church Secretary.
Applications can only be considered from those who are UK citizens or who otherwise have a right to work in the UK.
You will need to be able to declare wholehearted acceptance of the FIEC doctrinal basis and agreement with the FIEC ethos statements.
