We are looking to appoint a full-time pastor to succeed our present pastor on his retirement in July 2018 after 23 years’ service.
Barnoldswick is on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border. It is a former mill town in a rural setting and has a population of around 12,000. The Gospel Mission was established in 1931 and presently has 42 Members. The average congregation (comprising a broad spread of ages) is 70-80 at the main service. The ethos of the church is to be contemporary in approach and conservative in doctrine. We have a high view of Scripture and the importance of preaching whilst our worship style is contemporary (without neglecting the heritage of Christian hymns).
The Gospel Mission has the vision of being a Church that, through Christ, Worships God, Equips Believers, and Witnesses to our Community.
The Church is led by a body of Elders (of whom the Pastor is one) and Deacons, with major decisions being taken by the Members. The role of the Pastor is to have general oversight of all aspects of the church’s work, undertake most of the preaching, provide strategic direction, spearheading appropriate change initiatives where required with enthusiasm and sensitivity, and to encourage the church members to exercise their gifts, and in particular to help the eldership take responsibility for assisting in the discharge of pastoral duties.
Our requirement is for a man of God who can, to a greater or lesser extent assist the church with:-
Competency in Biblical preaching in an engaging and relevant manner.
Having a much bigger impact on our community. Since moving to our present premises in 2013 we have grown as a church, but most people in the town remain unreached so a burden for evangelistic outreach initiatives is required.
Pastoral care and ‘people management’. The demographic of the congregation is diverse in terms of both ages and views on secondary issues, so an ability to maintain fellowship and unity of purpose in a diverse and growing congregation is required. This will involve the Pastoral care of members of the congregation.
Applications can only be considered from those who are UK citizens or who otherwise have a right to work in the UK.
You will need to be able to declare wholehearted acceptance of the FIEC doctrinal basis and agreement with the FIEC ethos statements.
