Our small fellowship of six people is still looking for a brother to become our lay pastor. We cannot afford to pay wages (stipend) and we have no accommodation. The person who answers the call will need to regard the post as a labour of love for our Lord Jesus Christ. He will probably be self-employed, recently retired from business or have his own means. We know this is a big ask. The right man will feel called by God to serve in our corner of the vineyard.
Our church has been in existence for 116 Years. We are in progress of migrating to a new church constitution. This process has been delayed by the Covid Pandemic. It is hoped that the Church will morph into a place where plurality of leadership will become the norm. The new constitution allows for the appointment of pastors, elders, and deacons if and when persons with such ministries become apparent. Current congregations fluctuate between four to six people. Currently we are holding a Sunday Morning Service and a Monday Morning Prayer/Bible Study Meeting. Our Monday Afternoon Art and Crafts Club should restart soon. We used to run a Coffee Morning, but this has been cancelled because it was not producing converts and the ‘staff’ were finding the work a burden. We would like to be able to reopen our children’s work. This was closed many years ago and our building would need modification to meet modern standards for such a work.
Pound Lane Mission Church attracts older people with personal vigour. It is assumed, but not presumed, that numerical growth will occur in this area initially. It is hoped that an enlarged congregation might get a vision for other age groups and that the life of the Spirit will overflow to younger people.
The church likes to pray for people who are ill. Annual events important to the Church are,
- The Church Anniversary (First Saturday in July),
- Harvest (end of September or start of October),
- MacMillan Coffee Morning (September),
- Armistice Sunday (November),
- Annual Carol Service (early December)
Our Church has no resident musician. Currently we are singing along with YouTube videos of worship songs. Sometimes we have a visiting musician. The Church may want to develop an online experience after Covid. The Church is currently affiliated to the FIEC.
Our new pastor will be a conservative evangelical born again Christian who holds firmly to the plenary inspiration of Scripture, to the freedom of individuals to interpret Scripture without ecclesiastical aid, to the Basis of faith of FIEC and to that of the Evangelical Alliance.
The pastor must have a recognised expository ministry with the common touch. He will teach or cause to be taught the whole counsel of God. The Pastor is free to teach his own understanding of what the Bible teaches on any secondary issue, provided he does not insist that all the members of the fellowship share his views. He will take pastoral responsibility for the flock. It is hoped that the Pastor will encourage spiritual growth and development. It is hoped that the Pastor will do the work of an evangelist or cause others to do this work. He will be at home in a worship environment that includes the best of traditional hymns and modern worship songs. He will be answerable to the Lord, the Bible, the Trustees and the Church Meeting in that order.
Enquiries should be made in writing in the first instance to Rev Bill Turner, 19, Great Harrods, Walton on the Naze, Essex. CO14 8UN.
