The Associate Pastor (Students) has overall responsibility, with direction from the Senior Pastor and elders, for the ministries of the church among undergraduate students.

As such, the role involves:

• Generally overseeing and developing the programme of Bible-study, discipleship, training and evangelism among home students

• Co-ordinating with the female student pastor and pastoral assistants.

• Overseeing engagement and integration of new students

• Training and equipping the Student Connect team

• Co-ordinating pastoral care among the student body

• Developing the one-to-one discipleship ministry

• Overseeing events connected with the student ministry, eg Summer Bible Week, Student Getaway, and evangelistic events

In addition, as a full-time member of the elders team – further areas of pastoral responsibility including:

• Preaching and leading of Sunday gatherings

• Pastoral care & discipleship

• Mentoring one or more Ministry Trainees

• Working alongside other staff members in the context of general ministry needs

Required Skills

We expect certain qualities from all staff members:

• A commitment to the authority and teachings of the Christian Bible

• A determination to live consistently as a Christian disciple, including honesty, integrity, prayerfulness and general godliness – including in the face of hardship

• A commitment to the church’s beliefs (incl agreement with the Statement of Faith)

• Willingness to play a full and active role in the life of the church

In addition, for this particular role, we are looking for:

• Agreement with the Doctrinal Distinctives of the Church

• Ability to teach the Bible clearly and winsomely

• Good leadership skills including the ability to motivate and care for those under one’s care, to listen, encourage and bring the best out of people

• Competence in management and co-ordination as necessary to oversee a busy ministry

• A willingness to show hospitality and the flexibility required by pastoral ministry in a fast-changing environment with varying needs

• A love of people generally, and the desire to go out of one’s way to serve others well; some experience of and enthusiasm for, student ministry in particular

• Theological training and experience of pastoral ministry – you are likely to be either in an ‘Assistant Pastor’ role now or to have significant experience before or during training

• A servant-heart ‘can-do’ attitude, including willingness to pitch in regularly with mundane tasks in the life of a new church to get the job done
