Grove Hill Evangelical Church
Grove Hill Evangelical Church (GHEC) started life as a mission in 1878 and was established as a local church in 1883. Previous pastors and assistant pastors include John Edmonds (Swindon), Andy Jack (Aberdeen), Andre Beck (Felixstowe) and Mark Hughes (Avoch). GHEC joined the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) in the 1920s. It is also part of a local Passion 4 Life group - as well as a wider evangelical group in the Wanstead and Woodford area - and is a member of the Evangelical Alliance.
The church currently has just under 50 members, with a Sunday morning attendance of between 70 and 90. We have two Elders and three Deacons (one woman + two men). In addition, we employ a full-time Pastor,
a part-time Assistant Pastor, and one of our Elders gives two days a week to the ministry here.
The church is located in a residential suburb of London, which has an increasingly diverse ethnicity. We have good links with the community through a Christian Pre-School held
four mornings a week. In addition, there are a number of other regular groups/clubs that see to serve the fellowship and the neighbourhood.
Martin Hull has been the Pastor since Oct 2001. After leaving school, he worked full-time within the service industry until his early 40s. He trained for the ministry at London Theological Seminary and then served for six years as a part-time Pastor’s Assistant with Simon Percy, at Woodford Evangelical Church. He is married with three grown-up children. His wife, Corrie, teaches French to adults and runs our English Conversation Class. Martin is a member of the FIEC Pastors’ Association and currently serves as the FIEC ‘Visitor’ for the North East London / South West Essex area.
